The way I make stone spheres that I have for sale and in my collection requires multiple steps.

  1. The stone has to be cut into a cube using my 24 inch diamond saw.

2. Then the edges are cut off using the shaping jig in the diamond saw above

3. I then grind off the corners with a 4 inch angle grinder that has a diamond blade (Well protected with mask, ear protectors, and safety glasses.)

4. The blank sphere is then put into my triple head sphere grinding machine. The grinding cups are surfaced with course diamond. These motors are 107rpm gearmotors held onto the sphere blank with the springs.

5. The grinding continues until all flat spots are removed and the stone is perfectly spherical. Water continually drips onto the grinding.

6. The sphere is then polished on this machine using diamond pads in sets of 3 inserted into pipe reduction cups. The diamond polishing grit size stages are: 50, 300, 800, 3000, 15000. For softer materials, I stop at stage 800 diamond, and then do a final polish with tin oxide pads on this machine.
