These are agates first identified by John Earle and Gordon Auton in Southland. They can be found mostly in Awarua Bay, which is a shallow tidal estuary that has very little turn-over of material. They have also been found on farmland in Tokanui, and sometimes in the Hedgehope River. These come in nodule form and there is very little information on how they could have been formed.
